TONEMOAPersonal color, read from your own photo

Personal color analysis apps and sites compared

Seven online options and the in-person route, compared by what each one says on its own official page: the format, how many color types it uses, what is free, the first paid price and what happens to your photo.

How we checked, and who we are. On 2026-10-17 we opened each official page and copied what it states. We did not buy every paid feature or test accuracy side by side, and prices change. TONEMOA is our own service, so this is not an independent ranking — we do not pick a winner; use the table to choose by what you need.

Getting a result you can trust from a photo

Whichever app you use, the photo decides more than the app: daylight from a window, no beauty filter, no colored contact lenses, and your natural hair color if you can. If two photos in different light give different seasons, trust the daylight one.

Questions

Which personal color apps are free?

Every web option above lets you start free (for the YouCam Makeup app we did not check). What the free part includes differs: ColorAI and TONEMOA show a season or tone with a few colors, Color Lab a PDF report, and the paid parts are a fuller palette or report (checked 2026-10-17).

What is the difference between 4, 12, 16 and 20 types?

Four seasons sort colors by warm or cool and light or deep. Twelve, sixteen or twenty types split each season further by how clear or soft and how deep the colors that suit you are. More types give narrower palettes, but the result depends more on a good photo.

Is a photo-based result as accurate as an in-person analysis?

No app can promise that. Light changes the colors a camera sees, so take the photo by a window in daylight without filters or colored lenses. An in-person consultant compares real fabrics against your face, which a photo cannot do.

Do these apps keep my photo?

It differs. TONEMOA analyzes the photo inside your browser and does not upload it; ColorAI and Color Lab say they delete the photo after analysis; Clad says the photo is used only for the diagnosis. Check each privacy page before you upload.
